Fields of Grace operates in the Mid-Columbia River area of Washington State. This area is rich in agricultural resources and produces an abundance of the state's fruits and vegetables. Oftentimes, farmers find that they do not harvest all of their crops. This may be due to labor shortages, crop damage (too much rain, hail, etc.), or simply a surplus of produce.
Fields of Grace is a group of volunteers who partner with area farmers and 2nd Harvest Tri-Cities to provide fresh produce for area residents in need. These volunteers are trained in the etiquette and techniques of safely harvesting crops. Each volunteer must complete a liability waiver to prior to gleaning produce in area fields and orchards. This produce is then distributed to area food banks by 2nd Harvest Tri-Cities.
Begun in 2006 at West Side Church in Richland, WA, Fields of Grace has trained nearly 300 volunteers who have logged nearly 2,000 hours of service to harvest over 90,000 pounds of produce.
